The Avanti battery meets the huge market for stationary storage at moderate scale, on the order of 100 kWh; this technology serves the single-family home or small-to-medium enterprise.
The aluminum–sulfur battery is a practical solution composed of earth-abundant elements that can be domestically sourced, operating at moderately elevated temperature--near the boiling point of water. This chemistry represents a radically new approach to a low-cost, fire-resistant, rechargeable, recyclable, battery.
